Getting here by road

Located in the Loire Valley, 2km from the small town of Descartes which is midway between Tours and Poitiers, Le Bouchet is only 20 minutes from the A10 junction at St Maure de Touraine.

If you are coming by road there are various options:

  • For those who want a short channel crossing there is of course Eurotunnel and the ferry services to Calais and Boulogne. From the Calais/Boulogne ferry terminals there are two suggested routes to Le Bouchet both taking about six hours - one route for the brave hearted (and admirers of traffic jams) via Paris and the A10 - and the other route via Rouen and Le Mans using the new A28 link joining the A10 just after it has passed over the River Loire at Tours.
  • For shorter driving times in France there are the ferry terminals at Caen (3 hours), St. Malo (3.5 hours), Le Havre (4 hours).

Whichever route you choose, just click on the buttons on the left for more information. Click here for full driving directions to Le Bouchet, including route planning that you can print out.

Getting here by air

Situated where we are in the Loire Valley we are only 40 minutes away from either Tours airport or Poitiers airport allowing you the flexibility to choose your arrival and departure times and airports. This can result in some astonishingly cheap deals with Ryanair - sometimes at no more cost that just paying airport taxes!!
Ryanair also have flights to Limoges (2 hours away) from East Midland and Liverpool airports.

Flybe have flights to La Rochelle (2 hours away) from Birmingham and Southampton airports and if Paris is a more convenient arrival destination (3.5 hours away) then Easyjet offers flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle from many different UK airports.

Of course car hire is available at all airports and stations and is considerably cheaper in France than the UK. Many times we found that it can actually be cheaper to fly to France and hire a car than to drive over via Eurotunnel or the ferries, particularly for shorter stays.
